The original gas cap on my '69 elky was shot (plugged vent) so I replaced it with a locking cap. I noticed that if I went around a hard left hand turn, the gas will slosh towards the fill neck and leak past the cap. I blamed the aftermarket locking cap for this problem so I ordered a reproduction original style cap. Now when I go around a left hand turn, the gas runs past the cap even worse. I was wondering if anyone had run into a similar problem and if there is a solution since this does not seem too safe (or good for the gas mileage).

check around the top of your filler tube. if it looks bent or anything youll have that problem.

Thanks for the reply but I have already checked the top of the filler tube and it appears to be fine.

What happens when you take a hard RIGHT turn? If nothing happens while turning hard right, you may have a leak, or a bad filler neck somewhere. Chances of two bad gas caps is rare. It does happen, but not all that often. Hope you find out what the problem is.
I reread my original message and I meant to say that it leaks when I take a hard right since the gas filler is on the left. It does not seem to leak when I go around left turns. Sorry for the screw up. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/redface.gif
The neck was originally leaking where it was attached to the tank so I had a radiator shop solder it for me and it stopped that leak, but it still seams to leak either through the cap or around it. Next time I stop by where it is stored for the winter I will recheck for any cracks in the neck but I had thought that the shop would have checked for this and told me if there was a problem.
