It's that time of year again here in PA. I've read several places about jacking up and blocking your vehicles for storage, but how high? I've got mine raised and on jack stands but not hanging free; the tires are touching the ground but not with much weight on them. I figured the idea was to relieve the springs and suspension. Is this OK or should the tires be completely off the ground?

I dont think it matters. Have been storing my 67 for years and some years my tires touch and some years they spin... doesnt seem to make a difference. The only consideration would be if you wanted to pull a wheel for some reason or another over the winter.A lot easier when its clear.

If there is not much weight on the tires, I wouldn't worry too much. But, If it isn't to much trouble, why not raise it a few inches and get them off the ground? Along with relieving the load off the springs, Some guys' thinking is, Raising the tires off the ground will eliminate any chance of flat spots forming on the tire.
Early in my chevelle's life, I had it stored for quite some time. When I finally drove it, It felt like I had square tires. I guess it depends on how long you leave it sit. Raising the jacks an inch or two dosen't cost anything so, why not do it?
Oh yeah, GO STEELERS!!!

Well, you have to admit, even for PA this has been an abnormally nice late fall weekend so far. Even so, i really can't see that it's worth putting in the effort of jacking the car up for just the winter. If it were to be for a year or more, well maybe. Of course, we all have our opinions. I plan on driving my 69 tomorrow, and even when it's really cold and miserable I'll make the effort to start it up, get the oil hot, pull it out of the garage and take a few laps arounds the local backroads.

My Chevy PU is a 90 it's been sitting on it's suspension for 9 yrs, 12 months a yr.hasn't hurt it yet. When you jack them up you are taking the weight off the tires. When I put mine up for the winter I don't jack itI just put 55 lbs of air pressure in the tires to keep them from flat spotting, fog the engine with 2 cycle oil, change oil and filter,be sure the anti freeze is OK, mine is stored in an an heated garage, and remove the battery...FRED

Thanks to all. Just wanted some feedback; this is the first year I've actually not driven a car for 5 or 6 months. It's been a beautiful weekend here in PA, but probably one of the last really nice ones for a while. (hope not though !!)
