: front sway bar trouble

I was running a 1 1/4" front sway bar on my 65 chevelle with all polyurethane bushings. Last week the bar pulled one of the bolts out of where the sway bar bushings attatch to the frame. Also, the bar seemed to squish the top of the driver side end link bushings to one side, elongating the hole the bolt slides through.
Is this bar causing too much stress on my car?
Also, when a larger bar is put on do I still use the stock length end link bushings or shorter ones, and if so, any idea what size?

Currently I have my old stock sway bar on until I can figure out the problem.

Thanks,
Tim

End links should allow the end arms of the bar to be level with the car sitting normally. Put the bar on and leave the links out and measure from bar ends to A-frame attachment points, should be same length. Sounds like maybe the car is not sitting level and the sway bar is trying to level it up which really stresses the bar. Should have some pretty good shocks to go with the poly bushings too. The bar doesn't sound too big but I would think about putting rubber bushings on the frame attachment points with the poly bushings on the end links.
