I am changing my SB to a BB in my 67. If I get the PS brackets for a 68 BB will there be enough room under the alternator for a PS pump with reservoir? If not, can I use Camaro
BB brackets or did they also have a reservoir system? It is expensive to buy a complete change over kit and I would like to just change brackets if possible.

68 has the same setup as a 67; external reservour. I don't think it is possible to add a power steering pump to these cars without using the external reservour type setup, unless you change over to a long water pump configuration, with the alternator moved to the passenger side.

I too swapped small block with a big block in my 68. Had to use a junkyard manual steering box out of a 67 el-camino just so I could drive it. I miss the power steering, especially when parking and turning tight turns!! Chevyland has a complete original style kit with pump, reservior with all lines and hoses and all brackets (does not include steering box), for around $500. Still trying to save up for this. Found them on this website. $4 for the catalog. Here's their address:

Let us know how it works if you install this kit...

Groundup has it for less than $300.I have a 67 caprice power steering pump of a BB of the short water pump style that does not have external resevoir.I havn't looked to see if it will physically fit the 67 but I want the separate res anyway.

I switched from sb to bb in my 66 and used all the same power stering components.including the bracket. I just drilled new mounting holes on the bracket. also my alternator is on the pass. side because its a 77 motor.

I, like Justin, used a newer engine in my '67...mine's a '73 with the alternator on the passenger side. The problem I had was finding brackets that would work. My Chevy dealer is pretty good, and they determined the bracket off a newer truck would work, and it did. Cost about $18. Have you considered changeing the position of your alternator? I've seen kits to drop it low on the block...could that help your situation?
