Here's another question for you guys. How many of you are running a spool or mini-spool on the street? I've heard different things about the pros and cons of opting for a spool rather than a posi unit (i.e. stress on the drivetrain, incredible traction, etc.) Posi units are not getting any cheaper, and the performance of a spool is inviting, but for what sacrifice? I've typically seen spool set-setups mated to a built automatic spinning a torque converter with a killer stall. But what about a 4 speed set up? Is this too impractical for a muscle car built for mainly street use?

Hi, I went through the same decision about
a year ago on my 70 Chevelle. In my opinion
if you drive the car VERY limited on the
street and ONLY in fair weather you should
be OK. Remember spools are not designed for
turns. I have read stories of them breaking
on the street. As far as performance advantage,a QUALITY posi is better on lower
HP cars,i.e.450hp or below. As a matter of
fact, some NHRA stock class racers prefer
them, less drag and more forgiving on marginal
track conditions.I spent the money and went
with a Strange 33 spline 4 series posi unit.
The reasons are above but mainly you DON"T
want to get caught in the rain with a spool.
I have a 11 year old son who goes to anything
car related with me, so safety is my main concern. Thats my .02 worth, hope it helps!

If you're planning on seriuos street racing only w/slicks, yes...

If you plan on street driving for fun at all, no. Can you say PUSH...as in severe handling problems? Go POSI!
