After having my '70 Malibu in winter storage/slow restoration, I noticed when manually pushing it back into the garage(powerglide in neutral) I heard a soft metallic scraping sound that seemed to correspond with the movement of the tires.

Any guesses on what this is???

My thoughts are on the drum brakes?!--is it safe to drive with this to get it serviced? By the way service is like a 30 mile drive away http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

Or worse could it be tranny problems? The 'glide lost quite a bit of fluid from the pan seal during sitting (didn't show a problem when I read the dip stick).

Please help.

I bet it's just a little rust build up on the drums

sounds to me like drums are dragging.. I wouldnt worry about it a bit to be honest.. but if it'll help you sleep at night maybe you should get it checked, it definately cant hurt..

disc brake rotors tend to rust after sitting a while and will make the noise you describe, which is really no big deal

Agree with Dean and Mike - I've had it happen
