I have a Q-Jet on my 70 Chevelle, I know the engine is an '86 350 from a Camaro (I have the junkyard reciept). What year/make does this number off the Q-jet correspond to.

L7059222
709 C S

Oh the carb is mounted on a spacer on Weiand #8004 aluminum intake.

I was thinking about rebuilding this carb in the summer. Do I use this number when I pickup a rebuild kit? I have never rebuilt a 4 barrel. Got any tips, or books I should buy?

L7059222 Could the L be a 1?

I find no part number L7059222 or 7059222 for a Q-Jet carb. Does not mean it no good just does not show in any parts lists. The number 17059222 is a good number, its a 1979 305 Q-jet used on various models. Should be a very commoon carb.

The "L" could be a "1". I'll get a better look later on. Thanks

The "L" is really a 1, the part number is: 17059222 709 C S
"170" is the prefix code. From 1965 through 1975 all Rochester carbs had 70 as the prefix code. In 1976, the prefix code was changed to "170"

"5" Indicates that the carb was built from 1975 through 1979

"9" Is the actual year of manufacture, e.g. 1979

"2" is the carb model. In this case, a Q-Jet built to Federal (non-California) standards

"2" is the division of GM, in this location the numbers 0, 1, and 2 all indicate Chevrolet

"2" This number usually was used to designate whether the application was for an automatic or manual transmission. Even = automatic, odd = manual

"709" Date Code, actual date & year of manufacture, e.g. 70th day of production in 1979

"CS" Customer Code The 2 or 3 letters that usually follow the stamping numbers designate the code Chevrolet assigned to the carburetor. There are no records (as far as I know) to indicate which letter codes corresponded to specific manufacturing plants. The correlation to actual carburetor application to this code is the same code as shown on the car's original build sheet.

The second number, e.g. asked about in this string, e.g. 7040202 FO DH decodes as follows:

"70" Rochester carb, built between 1965 and 1975
"4" 1970 - 1975 manufacture
"0" - 1970
"2" Q-Jet, Federal Standards
"0" Chevrolet Motor Division
"2" Automatic Transmission Application

No build date given
