We just purchased a 67 malibu wagon. Does anyone know if there is a way to install shoulder type seatbelts? Any information will be extremly helpful. Thanks for your time!

put a roll cage in it and bolt the seat belts to that http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Your 67 should have mounts installed already. You can feel them through the headliner.

I'm actually getting ready to do this on my '68. I purchased belts from Andover at http://www.andoauto.com/retrofit.htm

I'm putting in the retractable 3pt. ones up front. I'm using the mounting point for the stock shoulder belts and then mouting the retractor to the rear panel. In your wagon, next to the seat would work fine. They also sell the proper braces that you can quickly spot weld in to mount the retractor to.

I've also seen Juliano's belts, and they have excellent instructions on how to do it on their web site. http://www.julianos.com/retract_3point.html

Take a look at their how to section - great stuff, and pretty much how I'm going to install mine.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

PS do a search on BB_Mike and Uncle they both have these belts installed and have posted about them before. Mike has pictures on his site too.

if the mounts are there, i got some for mine out of a junkyard, a lot of the old buicks have em if you arent too worried about being "correct".

Shoulder belts were an option in 67 so the mounts were installed whether the belts were ordered or not (allowed the port/dealer to install them if you wanted them).

Anyone know where to find corect GM reproduction seat belts? Not retrofits but replacements for worn out or missing ones.

Hi

I have a 67 El Camino and after reading this post thought I would retrofit with the 3 point belts. The shoulder mounting point seems to be there from the factory but is only 2 threaded screw holes which are 2 inches apart with a 1/4 hole in the middle. The 2 threaded screw holes are less than 1/4 inch so appear would hold down some sort of cover plate - don't seem to be strong enough for the shoulder belt which I would expect to be a single hole about 7/16 of an inch.

Anyone seen this before or know if these small holes are meant to hold the seat belt.

Thanks

Mike

Mike, the holes are the same on my '68.

The two holes hold a plate, which holds the original shoulder belt mount.

For the belts that I bought from Andover, I just used one of those with a fender bolt. Works fine.

The bolt holes are 5/16", btw.

The shoulder belt mounting point under the headliner was added partway through the '66 model year.

Hi

Thanks for the reply Chad. The bolt holes on the 67 El Camino are larger than 1/4 and smaller than 5//16. Chevy must have beefed up the shoulder bolt holes in 1968. They are probably metric - I'll find out as soon and post it here.

Will take your Andover recommendation - seems like pretty good stuff. I spoke with them about my bolt holes but they were not familiar with this exact set up. Worst case is probably welding something in if necessary.

Regards
