My friend is selling his 396 for $1400 and i was wondering if its to much.
bored 20 over
cast 10:1 pistons
steel crank
stock heads with stainless valves and roller rockers
torker 2 intake with 750 holley double pumper
headers
mild cam
It ran 13.1 with slicks at the track on just the motor in a 71 ss chevelle. The motor only has about 3000miles on it.

That's a deal. Figure on what it'll cost to duplicate it.

Its almost impossible to build a good big block for less than 3 grand, sounds like a good deal...try and get all the pulleys and brackets with it so you dont have to try to hunt them down.

That is a good deal, as someone else said, check what it would cost to duplicate the motor. Also, like drptop said, try to get as many of the brackets and other accesories as you can. I put a big-block in my Chevelle this summer, and if you are used to the price of small block stuff like I was, you will be in for some sticker shock. Every little thing you can keep with that motor will save you time and money.
umm, just checking... how many times did it run 13.1 in the quarter? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I'd suggest a good inspection so there are no hard feelings between you and your friend.

I'm building my 402 right now. I've got $1200.00 just in parts. And that doesn't include a intake or Carb. I do all my own machine work and get a great deal on parts, but $1400 sounds like a good deal to me. Thats as long as its a strong runner with good compression.
