Did a comp.test on my 72 402BB,all plugs out,and the readings were all 150 to 160 psi.Is that about right??? Can't find any info. on the correct ###'s.
Another subject--- anyone use the compcams extreme energy cams in there BB.If so,how well, what specs,. I was looking at one with about 510 lift and there #262 grind. What should I expect?I'll be running headers, performer manifold, holley 650,auto,with .342 posi 12blt. Thanks for the info...

For compression, if there is less than 10% difference between the highest and lowest reading then you are fine, all between 150-160 is a good compression. As for the cam, I just put a Comp Cams 280H Magnum cam in my 454 and I love it. I would not even consider a 262 for a BB, my brother just put one in a 283, and it works good in there but I wouldn't bother with something so small in a BB. At least go up to the 27# range somewhere, you will be happy you did.

seems to me a 650 Holley is too small for a big block,,,my cam is a Lunati w/556-540 lift,300-310 duration,,,,all kinds of torque, but, its a solid lift cam...I hate to adjust it .....

Another vote for the comp 280H. Great street cam, not too lopey, pulls good off the line and all gears. I have used it in a 402 and a 427- great cam. I would suggest you also get the springs if yours are stock. I ran the 402 for years with the original springs, broke one, changed them 6 months ago and made a difference in power and idle quality.

Steve, Chris, how well does the 280h cam work with an auto, the .230 duration sounds large, will it need a stall conv.?Will it work my power acc's?
And yes Robert, the 650 is propably to small but that's whats on it for now (spread bore) I'd propably get a 750 EDEL. Thanks guys for the info.

Im running a .060 over 402 (415) with the comp cams magnum 280H. It runs great, idles good, no complaints. I am also using a 750cfm Speed Demon double pumper, mechanical secondary and this seems to be plenty for the motor. I use a turbo 400 with about a 2500 stall and it has great street manners with 3.73's (going to 4.11 soon though and maybe more stall).
