I need a battery for my 70 SS. My build sheet shows R79W in box 49 and a T60 option in the lower parts of the sheet. I've been told that R79W was a heavy duty battery with side posts. I was wondering about an AC Delco Freedom battery, any other ideas ? If people have used the Freedom battery what was the number for it. Thanks for helping..

I put the Optima battery in all my vehicles and I am pleased with the performance. It is the best battery I have found for cars that don't get driven everyday. They don't have gases that come out and do not corrode the terminals. The one in my 64 has been in it for 3 years and the only thing that accumulates on it is dust.

Steve,
As Philip has stated, the Optima Batteries seem to be the best thing out there for race cars, and collector cars that are not run very often. However, if you want to keep the "original" look, the Delco batteries are also very good. I have had one in my 73 Z-28 for about three years now with absolutely no problems. It does not look exactly the same as the original but pretty close.
