: A/C Leak - behind firewall

Of all the Chevelles I have owned I have never had one with A/C - So now I am blessed with one. Although I have plenty of expertise on dissassembling and assembling drivetrains I have "0" exp with A/C. Turns out the A/C has a leak on the firewall side.

Of course I do not want anyone touching the car except for me so how difficult is it to remove that piece that bolts up to the firewall to get at the leak. Any helpful suggestions would be great.

You'll have to remove the battery tray and passenger inner fender and then just unbolt the "suitcase". If you have a big block you might not have the clearance to actually pull it off the firewall so you might have to notch out the two inboard holes and slide the suitcase out.

I don't think you have to remove the whole suitcase, just the inner half to remove the evaporater. Disconnect expantion valve and suction throttling valve at the evaporator and slide in out (towards engine). It will be a bit*h job either way as a couple of the nuts are down behind the motor.
