Anyone who might be wondering how to remove the thin, stainless mldg. at the rear of the hood on '68-'72 Chevelles: Open the hood, place a 3/4'x2"x10" (approx) block of wood against the bottom lip of the mldg. from the front of the car. Tap with a hammer or mallet starting at either end and work towards the center. This will avoid any nicks or scratches that you'd get if you tried to remove from the top.

Thanks for the tip. I never thought about doing this from the underside. Have you got any suggestion about how to put it back on without plowing up paint ahead of the chrome strip?
Well, the paint on my car is not fresh, so it went on by light bumping with a rubber mallet, but I suppose with softer paint it could be a problem. I would first use either a file or 100 grit paper to remove any sharp edge at the lower front. This will provide a smooth rounded edge that will probably ride over the paint instead of cutting into it.

Also, when putting emblems, trim, etc back on a freshly painted car, if you're not in a rush, wait a 2-3 weeks after getting it back from it's beauty coat, allowing the paint to harden and cure a little more. I did this on a previous resto and had no problems.
