Has anyone cleaned and restored the buckle of the 70-72 deluxe seatbelts? Mine get stuck and are a pain to loosen. I just bought the car a little while ago.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have washed themn in hot soapy water and let them dry on the clothesline. Seems to get the junk out of them OK. Use a spring clamp on the belt to keep it from going into the retractor while it is drying.

i had to purchase some used seat belts from a salvage yard to replace the missing ones when ibought my 70 ss. they were filthy from being in an open car and the buckle buttons didn't depress well.
i first sprayed the innerds ? with a wd40 type spray to loosen the mechanism up. then i put them in the dishwasher for a short cyle. the webbing came out clean as could be, and i sprayed the mechanisms alittle more, they function & look great.

What David in GA says...
I got some dealer install types for my 64 and they were kinda "crusty" so I stretched it all out in the dishwasher and put in just a small amount of soap. Ran it through with soap the 1st time then without any soap a second time. They turned out beautiful and a touch of WD40 in the mechanisms made everything work like new.
Hope it helps

The receptacles can be taken apart to get all the crud out from around the buttons. The webbing itself can then be slipped out so you can do a more thorough washing.
Oops, just realized you're working with deluxe belts - nevermind!

Thanks all for the replies. I suspected WD40 might be the way to go and you've confirmed that. Thanks!
