Do I need to lift the engine up when installing hedman headers? I have a 327 ci engine with flowmasters exhaust but don't know if the exhaust manifold is stock chevy. I have heard from people that own this car that I don't have to lift the engine.
Any knowledgeable about headers?
Thanks,
stan

My 66 with a small block has hedman headers too. I ddi not install them but i know that when my front end was rebuilt, one of the headers had to be removed. This was done without lifting the engine so i asume they can be put in without lifting it. hope this helps

I don't know if this is typical, but I just put in a set of Hedman full length headers in my 67 (also a 327). I had to pull out the steering column, pull a valve cover, and pull the master cylinder and power booster. I also jacked up the engine about an inch on the driver side. Believe me, jacking the engine is the easiest of the above procedures. They are hell to install.

I just installed a set of Hedmans in my 66 last week end, may the header gods be with you there was alot of cursing that day . I had to jack my engine up big problems on drivers side, get as much stuff out of the way as possible and good luck (patience is the key it can be done but no fun!!

I have never used Heddmans, but any header I have installed on a small block chevelle went in no problem from underneath, just need the car high enough to get the header angled right..Big blocks however, have to unbolt the drivers side mount and jack up the motor to go from underneath..maybe heddmans are different.
