: Shortie header install tip

When installing my Hedman 1 3/4" primary headers in my 69 bb, (I think they call them intermediate or shortie style) I found that I could remove the steering shaft from the rag joint. The extra clearance made it possible to put the driver side in from the top. (the pass side went in from the top no prob) It was close when it came time to put the steering shaft back because it passes over the back two and under the first two primary tubes. I also had to remove the rod from the clutch pivot to the z-bar. I disconneted the clutch pedal too so I could swing the z-bar around, but I don't know if this is really needed.

it should say right in the headers instructions that you need to take the engine mount out of the drivers side adn lift it with a cherry picker leaving the passenger side mount in to use as a pivot, it will pivot connect the header and slowly drop it down and put the mount back in . hole lot easier than screwing around with the steering

Nope, the instructions told me to put the whole car 36" in the air and install from below. Nothing at all about lifting the engine.
Seemed like a lot of space under the car for a Shortie set of headers...so I found another way.
oh, yeah.. i wrapped the headers in some old pillowcases until they were in place. Not a single scratch.
If I had a cherry picker, I would have tried something like you mentioned, but since I didn't... I had to find another way.. Hence this post..

Just thought I would share this for those who might come up against this same thing. (or want to install headers when they don't have a lift or a cherry picker available)
