Does any one have a schematic of the 2 ammeter leads as they come off of the firewall to the horn relay and battery connection. I need the fuse block position and which (black or black with white) wire goes to which point.
Also is there a way to test the Ammeter to determine if it is OK ???

I think i have a diagram in the garage, that might be useful to you,
i'll check back later
Dan
I will look for my diagram also. I am pretty sure that they go through a fusible link.

If anyone can send the diagram digitally I would appreciate it. If not, I will provide a FAX number. Also do you know where in the fuse block the 2 leads terminate ???? That is which pin position(s) ???
I looked in my Haynes manual that covers a 1970 monte carlo, and compared it to my 1970 El Camino, and it appears to be the same.
Where the wires go into the firewall there are two parts. The part closest to the drivers side fender has on the top row a red wire, a tan wire, a black/dbl white wire, and a black wire, in that order (the wire closest to the fender is the black wire.
The 16 gauge black wire connects to a 20 gauge fusiable link, and attaches to the junction block next to the battery. The black/double white wire connects to a 20 gauge orange fusiable link, which connects to a 10 gauge red wire, which connects to the alternator and the horn relay. I believe the circut numbers are 105 for the black wire and 106 for the black/double white wire.
Does this sound correct?
You should be able to test your ammemeter by disconnecting a battery cable, connecting one lead of the ammeter to the battery post and the other lead to the battery cable. Then turn on the lights and it should show a discharge.

To RAA
I will pull the blocks off the firewall and see if those post positions are vacant keep fingers crossed)
PS What discipline in Engineering ???
