Is it possible to convert the dash in my'71 malibu from a sweep style to the ss (round gauge) type. If so, can anyone tell me what is involved and where I could get the parts??? Thanks

Its definitly doable. Lots of folks here have done it. For starters check: azonline.com/~jimmy/conversion.htm (http://azonline.com/~jimmy/conversion.htm) . You can also do a search of this site. Click search at the top of any tech page and enter appropriate info.
There are For Sale pages at the home page of Team Chevelle, www.chevelles.com (http://www.chevelles.com) . There is also an auction there and I believe I saw an SS dash pod there.
Good Luck with your project.

Convert? actually it's Replace. To go from sweep style to SS you will need the complete plastic dash, gauge pod and wiring harness. The only pieces from your old dash you can use are glove box door, ac vents(if you have ac), underneath steering column cover, ash tray, and dash pad. Headlight switch, wiper switch, ac/heater controls, and radio are the same.
Almost every gauge pod I have seen for sale is missing the red brake lens for the parking brake light.

Actually, you can't use the under-the-steering column cover either. They're different between the sweep dash and the round gauge dashs. The one for the sweep dash has a longer neck at the rear where it goes around the lower part of the column. The repros for the round dash aren't very good, either. They'll go on and the screw holes are in the right places, but the rear edge doesn't match up to the dash very well. Like a lot of repro parts, they're just almost right.
