When I bought my '65 El Camino it had no door locks. I purchased new locks/keys, rubber gaskets, and lock clips. My problem is I have no drawing or photo to show how the everything is assembled. How does the lock assy. attach to the lock/slide mechinism on the car? Any recommended books that cover this kind of detail?

I changed the locks on my 69 and I'd think they would pretty much be the same. Just put your gasket on your lock and slide it in the hole and before you put the locking clip on slide the long shaft end into the arm of the locking mechanism itself.Then put the clip on and check it by lifting up and down on the shaft where it comes up through the door panel or put your key in the lock and turn it.It's pretty simple once you see how it works

JDavis;
When you got the new locks, did they come with a small plate with "groove" in it attached at the rear?
If not, you may have to go to a junk yard to locate the plates.
The groove captures a pin (or finger) on the door latch mechanism.
The "clip" that rancon is talking about is a fork shaped spring steel clip that not only holds in the lock, but also holds it tight against the body.
Once again, it may be a good idea to stop by a junk yard and just take a door apart to see how it's done.

Thanks for the replys so far. Two clips came with the locks, a large one for attaching and holding the lock against the door,and a small one that I guess is for holding some sort of bar that attaches to the back of the lock and the "finger" or shaft on the slide mechanism. What I need is that little "bar". I don't see such a thing in any of the catalogs I have.
