I have found a nice '66 SS I'd like to buy. The owner says the car is from Alabama, and in that state with that old of a car, there is no title. Is this legit? What type of paper work should there be? In Texas, we use titles on all cars I believe.

I can help ya out here, I have bought a few Alabama cars, and yes its true anything I believe 20 yrs old or older they do not issue a tittle just a blue sheet of paper, but , just to make sure everything is on the up-an up, get a copy from the owner and have your local DMV run it, to make sure U CAN get a tittle in your state, I have never had a problem getting a title for an Alabama car, but I have double checked both times, with my DMV that the car was ok, not stolen, or had an assemblers title etc. Sounds ok just double check it thats all and go get your Chevelle!! I bought my 66 Malibu from Alabama and registered it Indiana. Be sure to get a signed bill-of-sale from the seller with a description of the car and the VIN on it. On my way home, I stopped at a local State Police Post and had them check the VIN on the car against the bill-of-sale. They filled out a form that I took to the license branch. Getting the Indiana title was no problem at all. At first the teller said that I had to have a title from Alabama. When I explained the Alabama law, she looked it up and said I was right. Check with your local license branch and the state police to see what requirements they have.
