Have you been looking for a way to cool your engine? I have, for quite a while. I have a 70 Malibu 350cid with air conditioning. For years I wanted to preserve the originality of the car but this year I carefully removed the air conditioning compressor and condensor. I used to run 205 degrees on hot days but now 190 is the max with a 3 core radiator. The beauty of it is that it didn't cost me anything and it tool out 50lbs! I never ran the car with the air conditioning on anyways - it just doesn't seem like cruising with the windows up! Hard to believe how much air was blocked by the condensor core.

I've been wondering whether I should rip my a/c out too. How long did it take you to do it and how much of a pain is it?

Are you guys nuts??? Or do you live in Canada. Don't give up you a/c. If you open the system and let the parts sit around, you will ruin the system in a short period of time. Nothing hurts a/c components worse the letting them sit around unsealed nad expaosed to air.

I replaced my A/C system with a standard heating box in my Elky.
It took a many days to make the change-over, but the vehicle has lost at least 50 lbs, but more importantly, looks much cleaner and is easier to work on.
Most of the time, to change-over you need to replace the dash, change duct-work, heater box, accessory brackets, remove or change wiring harness, etc. Depends on how good a job you want to do.

Wish I had the $$ for an a/c for my Elky - I live about 90 miles from Death Valley and it was already 101 degrees here today. Maybe someday.
