My column shifter is beyond worn out. I can shift gears just by pulling on the handle, no need to pull it towards me or anything. I've thought about installing a console, but I'm really not sure about what parts to get to get everything to work. So, I was going to take the easy way out and get a new bushing kit for the column shifter. Only thing is I haven't been able to find one... Suggestions? I need a good shifting feel before I put in this small block terror of a motor.

Chris, It would probably be easier to find a used column than parts to rebuild yours. Do you have any swap meets in your area, that might be the place to find one. If not, you might try Sundell's in Slippery Rock, Pa. They have a large amount of chevelle stuff and could ship it to you. The phone # in Pa. is 724-794-6827 and in N.C. it's704-434-6759.

I had a shifter on the column too once but I just replaced it with something that looked 10 times better, a B&M shifter on the floor. No need for a console on this option. I think you will be happyer with one on the floor because it has much more firmer shifts than one on the column. Plus it looks better and there is no linkage to mess up, its all done with a cable.

Which B&M shifter did you use?

I have Quicksilver, but I haven't seen the car since august so I don't know how it is just yet. I assume it will be the perfect rest for my right hand, since I learned how to drive a manual and just can't seem to find the right place for it to sit. The first month I had the car, no one would sit right next to me becuase as a habit my hand would be right where their left knee was... led to some awkward scenes http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
