What is the best way to get the blue stuff off of grade 8 bolts. Wire wheel on my grinder works for bolts but is a little scary for lock washers. Is there something you can soak them in?

I use a wire wheel as you said and just hold the washers w/ needle nose pliers.

Yup me too. Sometimes I will leave the washer on the bolt(gives you something to hold on to) and let the wire wheel spin it.
