: Tachometer installation on HEI

I recently purchased a tach for a 77 El Camino my brother and I have been working on. Thus far we've confined our work to bolt-ons: underdrive pulleys, intake, exhaust, plugs/wires, etc. Anyway here's the point: the tach comes with instructions for older style ignition systems with external coils. How do you hook it up on an HEI unit where the coil is kinda incorporated into the top of the distributor cap? Also, any cautionary words about drilling into the dash? Any assistance/advice would be appreciated.

There is a BATT and TACH connector on the cap. Just put a female connector on your wire and connect it. When drilling just make sure nothing is behind were the hole will be.

Make sure to use no less than 12 gauge wire for batt. connection to HEI coil. Summit racing also sells the correct female connector with a 5" pigtail for about $5.00
