I was looking at the control arms on my elky and I'm trying to figure out what type of bushing would probably be in it. I know that there's 2 types- oval and round. I can't tell by looking underneath it so any guesses?? My car was built 11/25/69 in Baltimore. Thanks.

If you look close you can tell. The bushings in question are the rear, lower control arm bushings on the front of the car. They came as either round or oval and sometimes where mixed even on the same car.
Jack up the car enough so you can get your head under the lower control arm (be safe here). Look at the rear lower bushing from underneath. Where that bushing passes through the control arm you should be able to tell if it is round or oval. The oval ones are very noticable because of the flat area on the bottom of the bushings.
Check both sides, they could be different.

Hey, I got some information of the I-net (not Chevelle Tech) that the oval bushings were strickly non SS Chevelles, and that all SS Chevelles had the round bushings? Is that true? Thanks for the info!

What would be the difference of a round or oval bushings used on Chevelles? Nothing that I can tell in terms of improved suspension characteristics. Yes, SS Chevelles came with F40 and F41 suspension packages, but I don't see that it was a necessity to use round bushings in these cars. And why would only SS Chevelles have round bushings only? Were they really any different than the oval ones? I truly doubt it much. Can anyone with some real expertise in suspensions be able to explain which bushings were used on which cars and why??? I myself cannot even explain the reason for the two designs. . .

Dave,
My 70SS396 (verified SS, build sheet, Canadian cowl tag SS code, GM Canada documentation) had mixed round/oval. My feeling is that these were put on as they were availible. All round today. Some round some oval tomorrow. All oval the day after that. Assembly lines need to keep moving.
I haven't a clue as to why there were two different styles.
