I have this block and I'm trying to figure out if it came out of a corvette or a chevelle. I know it has to be rare either way. It appeares to be late 1965. The numbers are : T0911E3 on the front pad, 3855962 casting #, and K265 date on passenger side by motor mount. Does anyone know what this came out of? Thanks, Brian

Brian, ther's no "E3" for a suffix code.Double check that, they are hard to read. All engine suffix codes use all letters, not numbers and letters. There's no suffix codes for 65 begining with "E",but 66-67 has 'em.The code for a 65 396/425 would be "IF"

I think the "E3" might be "EG". I am pretty sure the 66 Chevelle 375 block is a #...962 (or is it 942?), I'd have to look, but that sounds like it. And the date appears to be early 1966 "Model year." I have heard of 425 HP ratings on early 1966 Chevelles, but everything is the same as the later 375 HP versions. That block was also used on some 360 HP 1966 Chevelles, so not as rare as you might think, but still worth more than an ordinary 396 block.
The Corvette only used the 396 in 1965, and according to that date, definitely not a Vette block.

I guess its worth $50, where do I mail your check!!!

I just bought a 65 395/425 motor so I've done a litle research.

K265 translates to Nov. 26 1965 casting date which means its very unlikely a 65 396/425 passenger or corvette motor. Likely used in the 1966 Chevelle line-up

1966 396 Suffix codes:

ED 396/325 3-4 spd
EF 396/360 3-4 spd
EG 396/375 3-4 spd
EH 396/325 3-4 spd AIR
EJ 396/360 3-4 spd AIR
EK 396/325 PG
EL 396/360 PG
EM 396/325 PG AIR
EN 396/360 PG AIR

I "believe" the only difference in the Corvette 396/425 HP and the Chevelle 396/375 was the "log type" manifolds which restricted flow.
