I was thinking about putting a stereo in my 70 chevelle. Is there any way I can do this without haveing to cut a hole in my dash?

Yes you can buy a stereo from year one or any othe place like that. They fit in the exsisting holes, and some of the more expencive one can use a cd changer and stuff like that.

Yes,install the original design stereo Chevrolet intended.I had mine restored with new speakers and feel it is as good if not better then most on market today.Crisp and clear with any range of bass and treble. The Carpenters 8tk never sounded so good. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Keep the OEM stereo where it is, just to look stock. Then install a new cd player either in the glove box, the center console, or under the dash. Be inventive, and you can have the factory look and modern day sound.

19Chevelle70,Gee, I wish you guys would at least put your name in a signature(thanks BillK). IF you go to the Radio Forum that Coppertop has put together for this site, he can help you set up a stereo for your car using the original parts that belong in your car and can upgrade the radio to work with some of the newer components of today.

In case anyone is looking for the older style stereo's which have adjustable arms to allow for installation in our older cars. I found a heck of a deal that may be avaliable in your area's as well.

I went into the local UAP/NAPA store and they had a display of older car stereo's which were no longer for sale. They wouldn't resell the stereo's because they were display models and already used but I bought the whole setup for $200.00 and I got $900.00 worth of stereo's and speakers. This also included the cabinet etc... so I got all the switches and a regulated power supply as well.

It's just something that I came across and though that I would share. Keep your eye's peeled because most of these places have old demo's etc... and they would love to get rid of them for the space. So remember to ask because they probably have something hidden away. There is treasure out there! Another place to find good stereo's with the adjustable control's are your local tractor dealer's. Believe it or not!

Hope it helps.

You can get in-dash am/fm/tape/cd controllers that will fit in the original holes. I did, and mounted rockford fosgate speaks hidden under a mesh package shelf. If I had it to do again, I would put in a stack radio/ dash speaker and have a hidden amp/ cd drive my rear speakers. remote control
but I enjoy my led zep tapes, just like I did in th 70's

CustomAutosound makes systems that will fit in your dash. Expensive. The previous owner of my Elky installed an old Clarion tape deck long ago. Since the posts spacing was about 1/2" closer, he enlongated the hole on the volume side to make it fit.
I just installed a Kenwood-2007 tape deck ($99) in the existing hole, a Kenwood FM Modulated, remote head,10 disk CD-player behind the seat ($199), A Crunch 300W 4-channel amp behind the seat ($99) and MTX TR-80 full range truck box speakers behind the seat ($99). I installed 4x6 speakers in the floor vents but they suck. Trying to figure out how to get 6x9's up front.
Good luck
