I have a '70 Custom El Camino and I need to replace the upholstery on the seat in it. Has anyone ever done it themselves?? Would you recommend I have someone else do it? Also, the seat foam inside seems to be in pretty good shape (no detiorioration). Should I use that or get new ones anyway??Thanks.

If youn have the stock seats and you want the genuine stock vinyl upholstery, go for it. I did it with the stuff from year one.It was pretty easy ( I bought the hog ring pliers kit from them) If you want cloth stuff , just go to an uphostery shop and get ready to pay a bit more. I have done it both ways. I think that the vinyl is the pits in both hot weather and cool ( I live in Tucson and I do not like a 40 degree seat in the winter morning or a 120 degree seat in the summer.) I know that sounds like grumping , but I sat on cloth seats at -40 in Minnesota and they were better than vinyl , ja sure.

Shawn I redid the bench seat (front & back on my 70. Check my pics page for a few pics. Email me if you have direct questions. I think the recover work was one of the easiest things I did completely by myself on my Chevelle last year.

I have a 67 chevelle and I did the back seat and it turned out pretty good. The front buckets were a different story. I had to put new foam in them and I got the bottoms done o.k. put the backs I had to take to a pro. Couldn't get the material to stretch far enough. He had to steam them. If you have access to a steamer I would try it. The worse case is that you might have to give up and take it to a pro.
