: Rhoads lifters - Follow Up

This posting is kind of a follow up to my original post about the clacking noise my Rhoads hydrauic lifters were making. Once you guys straightened me out that this was normal I figured I didn't have to be so cautious anymore with the car. You see, I was concerned about pushing it too hard not knowing what was going on in there.

So here is the situation. While out this weekend I decided to play around (just a little) with my buddy in his 67SS Nova. I jumped on it in first and by the time I got my eyes on the tach, it had climbed to about 6000 RPM (and it seemed there was a lttle more to be had but I shifted anyway). Now as I recall with my old stock lifters I was out of power at about 5500. I will add that in addition to the lifters I put in this winter, I added an Edelbrock RPM aluminum manifold and had my factory 585 CFM Holley rebuilt at Holley Performance.

Now I know I lost some low end performance last year when I put the bigger headers and 3" to 2.5" exhaust system but I did not see any top end improvement until I put these lifters in over the winter along with the manifold. The question is, Where do you think I picked up the extra 500 or so RPM? The lifters or Manifold??

PS I wonder when I get my Flag. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif I sent the check a week ago. Things that make you go hmmmmmmm http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Probably the combination of both gave you more rpm's. I don't know what style intake you were running, to compare the new one to. I think Al said the flags were on backorder! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

What manifold did you replace with the RPM? If it was a stock manifold I would say that is probably where it came from. Even the performer manifold is only good to 5000-5500rpm. Could also be the lifters. It doesn't take much for an engine to spin 6000rpm. My 454 does 6500.

It was a factory stock cast iron "Holley" manifold that I replaced

Thanks for the input
