: Not Happy With POR-15 Results!!

I painted my frame today with POR-15 Semi-Gloss Black. I'm not happy with the finish. After painstakingly sandblasting the entire thing, then using metal ready, the finish looks like hell. I sprayed the paint on at 20 psi, thinning it very little, less than 5%. At first it went on nice and smooth, but then these little pimples started forming all over it, almost looked like sand in the finish. It took about 5-10 min for this to happen. Also, it is about 2 hrs. after I finished, and it looks way too glossy for my taste, will it dull a little? I bought a qt of chassis coat black, will this be more of a semi-gloss black, will I get the same crappy surface finish. It is quite humid here today, is this what happens to the paint when it's humid? It was about 70 deg, 70% relative humidity when I painted it. Any suggestions on the next course of action would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like water coming out of your lines do you have a line dryer? or it could be solvent poping the paint skins over before the solvent is released use hotter solvent or by quality smooth rollers and or brushes had good luck that way surface and enviroment must be extremly clean for along time during and after you are done

You should like the Chassis Black tone. The POR semi gloss is actually very glossy. The Chassis Black should give you the finish you want. Not sure what those bubbles would be because regular POR is so thin that it creaps into every pore and fissure. Good luck.

Well, I think it was to humid when I sprayed on the ROR-15. I tried to cover up the pimples by brushing on the Chassis Coat Black, but now it has pimples and brush marks. I am sandblasting that mess off the frame, and starting over again. I might consider powdercoating, I'll have to look into the cost. If I don't powdercoat, I'll probably use PPG epoxy primer & suitable semi-gloss topcoat, I've sprayed this before with much better results that the POR-15.

I talked with a Por rep at Midwest Carlisle and bought motr solvent to thin with while spraying. He said that thinning is probably not necessary and that he never does unless it is "old" material. He also said that if you do thin you only need a thimble full. Before you blast it off, you might want to experiment a little bit with the thinning and see if it makes a difference. The high humidity makes the POR setup much quicker and like trw said the solvent may be burping thru.
