: Coverting '71 to '70 - Any major differences?

I might be buying a '71 El Camino body shell (no front end, no interior, but doors and tailgate)soon and I plan on switching all the parts from my '70 into the '71 therefore making it it a '70. Is there any difference between these years that I should be concerned about?

Also, would a '70 front end work on a '71? The shell I am buying has no front end or core support. Please let me know about that and any other differences that I should know about. Thanks and I hope this isn't too confusing http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif.

the speedo is white on the 71 and not the 70 (green) seats are different pattern, as for the front end, if you can transfer the whole front end, fenders, bumpers, wiring, i think you'd be ok. i prefer teh 70 anyway, front end wise, but i like the 71 white guages, sounds like a lot of work ahead, good luck jk

From what you've told us the shell is naked. If this is so then it is a simple matter of buying/swaping everything you need for the 71 from a 70. The major kick comes when people just think "I'll change the lights and be done." If only it were so easy. The core supports a very different to accomodate the different lights.

If all you have is the "outline" of an Elkay then your set, as long as you have everyting your going to need.

You're right, it will be a bare shell with maybe the dash if I'm lucky. I forgot about having the different color lettering. No prob though, I can just switch the stuff over. Just as long as everything will bolt up the same.

Will the seat (bench style)from my '70 bolt right up as well as the sunvisors? I heard that the '71 and '72 visors had no tips on them (by the mirror) like the ones from '70 do. If so, can it be switched over to the '70 style where there is rubber tips on the ends of the visor that slide into a plastic piece above the mirror?
