I'm contemplating converting my 67 Chevelle from Powerglide to 4-speed. I've gathered most pieces for the swap and am aware of most things involved in completing the job. My question is this, can I use the existing underdash brace that the pedals swing from? Can I just remove the automatic brake pedal and replace it with both the clutch and brake pedals without changing the whole underdash assembly? Thanks, Tim

Tim, I'm collecting the same pieces for my 66. I believe you can just swap the pedals. Let me inform you that you have to have the bracket on the frame that the left side pivot ball bolts to,of the "Z" bar assembly, welded on. I noticed mine being auto that this is missing. 67 pedals are differant than 66, They might work but are bent just a little differant. so I'm told. Good luck collecting, Rick.

Guys,

You can remove the auto brake pedal & use the existing housing. The pedals will fit with no problem. Just be sure to use the correct year pedals, they do not interchange. The curve of the brake pedal from 66-67 is different & will not work.

Pete, Thanks for your reply. I thought that's all that was necessary besides welding the Z-bar pivot ball bracket to the frame. Tim

Thats right. I just finished doing the opposite in my 67...3 speed column to turbo 400 conversion. Pulled the pin, dropped out 2 pedals, and pinned the wide brake pedal for the auto. Same brake light switch and return spring used.
