I wanta change my 14 in rims to 15's and get alum rims....so I'm thinking of getting 15X8 with 4.5in back spacing and 235/6015 drag radials for the rear and 15X7 4.5in back spacing with 215/6015 radial T/A's for the front?
what do U think-
good rim sizes?
tire sizes?
kinda tires good?
how long do the Drag radials work for (normal "week end" driving some what Hard)?
thanks for the help (will be ordering SUNDAY) HELP!!

Don't know much about the drag radial, but I used to have McCreary tires on my daily driver. They worked fine, a little squirely in the rain. If you are running a lot of gear you might consider a 275/60/15, this will fill the wheel well. They measure roughly 27". Good luck with your decision.

Brian, yup the 235's will be 26" high tires and the 275's will be 28" high tires. I'll tell you that the 275's will really fill your wheelwell if you like that look ( I do). I ran "skinny" 215/70's (??) in front.

Your rim choice seems exactly correct. Stock 71-72 SS have 4 3/4 BS, so your 4 1/2" BS seems right. If you can go to 4 3/4" you might. But I'm comparing your planned 8" wides with my 7" wides.

You'll like the BFG Drags. They will not spin unless you inflate them to 33 psi or more. They are soft. I;ve heard people saying they kick up stone ( being so soft I guess) I have not yey noticed anything on my kickpanels to evidence this.

They SUCK on very wet roads as you would imagine.

I got my car last year and never had any other tire on the rear. So I;ve put maybe 2500 miles on them and they don;t look all that different from day 1. So maybe I'll get 5000 miles out of them. Weekend duty.

FWIW, I plan on outfitting another set of rims with standard BFGRadial T/A for longer out of town or weekend cruises. Just would'nt want to be doing 70-75 in modertate/heavy rain on the Drags. Plus a couple of long 500 mile road trips will kill 'em.

But for your and my current "weekend" duty, they're mint.

I have fit 295 BFG drag radials on my 66. Used a 15X8 with 4.5 backspace and roll the lip to do it. IMHO the 295's REALLY look better than any other tire size.

A 235/60/15 is the best fit unless you like the jacked up look. I would run a 15x7 rim with 4 1/2 to 4 7/8 rear back spacing. Good luck.

BC, Steve has a point. My 67 has that stock high ride height in front. Fact the car came with 235/60/15 in rear and it was nose up a bit. If you have lowered front end, or just a lower stock stance, the 275 will indeed give you an elevated rear.

I am not sure that a 275 will fit a 64-65 Chevelle. The 66-67's I have seen plenty of 275's mounted on them. My buddy has a 71 and has 325x50x15 on his with 5 1/2 backspacing with 15x10 wheels. It fills up that fenderwell complete. I am going to see if his will fit my 69, if it does I will be putting same on.

Plain69.....what brand of tire does your friend run on his 71? Has he done any wheelwell mods like curlin the fenderlip or anything? How about to his suspension? How much space does he have left? Was his car jacked in the back before the new tires?

I am runnin a 275/60/15 on my 70 and with a set of HD stock wagon springs I can still fit a little bigger tire on my 15x10's. I have only 5" of backspacing, though.
