: 12 Bolt Braces
catman Jan 14th, 00, 9:33 PM I recently won a bid at e-bay auctions for a set of these braces that bolt up to control arms and body ,, they were advertised as being a GM part that the seller thought were standard on 300+ HP 70 to 72 Chevelles , I personaly have never heard of them before but time was short durring auction so I bid on them <56.00> and won ,, Anyone know anything about these braces or have them on there 12 bolts ? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif

69L48Owner Jan 14th, 00, 9:57 PM I believe your talking about the upper control arm reinforcements that strengthen the control arm mounting point and thus minimize the flex experienced under a load such as a hard acceleration or a hard turn. They were standard equipment on Super Sports. A good deal for 56.00 in my opinion. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
catman Jan 15th, 00, 11:44 AM Thanks 69L48Owner ,,, Thats the brace Im trying to discribe ,, and yes I do feel now I got a good deal on these braces .. I guess looking under a SS for these braces mite be a good way to spot a real SS over a clone as these braces must be hard to find and I dont think they are being reproduced http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Mr70MonteCarlo Jan 15th, 00, 12:17 PM I think all Monte Carlos have them. Mine is a 70 and its got them.
Cardiac Jan 15th, 00, 1:08 PM If they were mis-discribed then I'd guess they're the "Frame" braces? Going from the frame rails to the X-member usually found on BB cars ????

catman Jan 15th, 00, 1:29 PM the seller posted pictures of underside of car and had arrows pointed were they mount ,, they mount at top of upper control arm on 12 bolt and to body towards center postion of body above 12 bolt

drptop70ss Jan 15th, 00, 2:01 PM They came on ss chevelles, and I have also found them on 70-72 montes with 350 4bbl engines or better. Usually the 12 bolt rear is there also, I cant remember any 10 bolt cars that I have had that had them.
69L48Owner Jan 15th, 00, 9:57 PM My car is a 350 car but has a factory 12 bolt and it has the braces. I have not seen them before I got my car so I never noticed if the came on any 10 bolt cars but I don't think they did.:}
dude67 Jan 15th, 00, 11:23 PM These braces are to strengthen the rear frame on BB cars. They attach at the fwd uppr control arm bolt and at the fwd lwr control arm. GM had problems with frame cracking and this was the fix.

plain 69 Jan 16th, 00, 6:19 AM I'm not for sure though but just about every malibu 69-70 that has the 300hp 350 has a 12-bolt rear end so maybe they put the frame reinforcements in them also.
