Hi all -

Just picked up a car the other day, and discovered that there is no key for the locking gas cap. Any ideas on the best way to remove it? Should I drill out the cylinder, or does someone have a better idea? Thanks!

If you have no intrest in the cap; without the key why would you? You can try what worked for me. I inserted a small bladed screwdriver and worked a bit. After a bit of a force the lock gave up and it release the catches. Good luck.

A dent puller, you twist the screw into the key hole a few slides of the hammer and out pops the lock cylinder.

A locksmith can do it. That would be a dirty trick to put a locking gas cap on a Mustang and break the key off in it. HEHEHEHEHEH
Hope you don't need gas right away.

Thanks for the help, guys. I hammered a screwdriver into the cylinder, gave it a good twist, and she let loose no problem. Sounds like those caps are worth every penny of the $10-$12 they cost http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

I once had one I never used the key for. Used a screwdriver every time with no trouble. I just hoped a would-be thief or vandal would see the locking cap and move on.
