What are the numbers on your Trim Tag ??? The codes just before PNT on the second line tell you the paint colors, top and bottom

Please don't think ill of your car if it turns out to have had a 60's-70's hairpiece. It was a cultural algae bloom in the gene pool of automotive life.

I used to think this as I almost did not buy my Chevelle because of the vinyl top, but the car was black as was the top, so it was ok.
The vinyl top is growing on me- kinda makes the car more unique in that it was so cheesey and more Las Vagas.
But I am with you on the fact I prefer Chevelles with no vinyl top on colours other than black.

Back when these cars were being made a Chevelle(or Elcamino) without a vinyl top was considered to be a cheapo model. Don't know about the rest of the country but around here the "hairpiece" as you call it outnumbered the painted top cars 3 to one. The problem is the way they hold moisture and cause lots of problems with rust. I like them either way but I plan to prepare my roof and window seats with plenty of paint to help keep away the rust so I can put an original style "hairpiece" on Ol Paint.

Look at my signature and see what color top mine had over the green mist paint! Not many people would like that combo.

Anyone have any pics of a Chevelle/El Camino with a green vinyl top? I haven't seen that many around with that color.

It's just that I have owned 2 cars for long periods with hairpieces and they eat up too much of my time cleaning and dressing in the So Cal sun and smog. Also, they manage to grab the little rain we get and develop cancer.
