I am looking into rewiring my 69 Malibu in the next couple of months. I am gonna pull the body off and remove the new 383 to do up the frame and suspension, but I am looking for anyone that has bought a COMPLETE WIRING kit. I need the fusebox and all the wiring, I saw a kit from painless wiring and it looked pretty good. Has anyone used any other brands or painless? Were all the wires labled? Did the fuse block have extra accessory teminals, and was it a fair price? Did it have all the connectors for lights, and junctions?? How well did the fuse box mount to the firewall? If you have any info it would be apperciated...

Thanks
Dave

Call Painless Wiring at (817) 244-6898 and request one of their new catalogs that includes the loom number 20102.

It's listed as an "18 circuit wiring assembly for 1969-1974 GM muscle cars".

If you are not going for a restoration, this is what I'd recommend. Although I've never used one of their looms, I've looked them over and look like top quality and VERY complete. GM factory coloring of the wiring and I believe that the function is printed along the full length of the wire. Flat spade type fuses and also has the bulk-head fitting in the stock location.

The main facility and company that makes all stock type and stock modified replacement looms for Painless, Year one, etc is M&H Electric Fabricators, in Santa Fe Springs, California.

Painless does build their own street rod wiring harnesses, but not their factory replacement ones.

I was there getting parts and a loom for a customer's car last week. I asked who they build looms for, and they showed me the list and some of the replacement looms going to Painless, with the Painless logo on the packaging, and for at least ten other restoration companies.

These people are contactable on the web, www.wiringharness,com.

Once again, they make ALL the stock and modified stock replacement harnesses for the aftermarket restoration companies. They deal customer direct and can supply full stock or special looms, wiring terminals and end connectors, stock or special.

They can build your harness as you wish, for your electrical accessories, any way you want.

Hey Dave,

I'm installing a Painless Kit in my '72 right now. I decided on the painless over a factory replacement harness because I will be adding alot of special (non-factory items to the car like MSD, HEI, Stereo Sys, Air-Tique A/C, and a number other things) and did not want to butcher a replacement harness. I felt an aftermarket harness was a good place to start. Plus you will benefit from the newer style fusebox.

I've just started installation, and so far I'm impressed with the kit. It comes with good instructions and you can make it as simple or complicated as you want to.

One thing I noticed this kit did not have the writing on the wire which tells you what it's for. Kinda like you see with the other wire kits. But, the the wires are color coded to match factory colors. So that helps.

I don't have my book in the house, but I would be happy to answer any specefic questions about the kit. Email me direct if you would like.

I plan on doing a webpage showing the installation of the painless kit, and the install of the Air-Tique A/C system when I get time.

Gee, I wish I knew someone like me when I had questions about Painless. Seems like I'm always on the ground floor with the stuff I get into. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
