: 13's on a 3.08:1 rear?

I'd like to know if it is at all possible to run in the 13's with a 3.08 rear gear? The rear is in a 69 Chevelle with a 'glass hood, trunk mounted battery, no heat, or radio. It is powered by a 92 Chevy 350 with about 9.5:1 comp, a Performer RPM, Holley 600, Comp Cams cam, MSD 6AL box. It's connected to a th350 trans with a TCI shift kit. The car sits on poly. bushings all the way around and has the F41 suspension package. I have yet to run it at the track because it was only finished around Thanksgiving. It feels very strong, and I know it would run quicker with 3.73's but those aren't in the budget right now. I'm sorry this is such a long post,But I wanted to give you guys enough info. Thanks-Jason

13 anything would be a gift from the Gods with a 3.08. Find some short tires that will work and try those. It will help with the no gear deal.

I got 13.8 @ 101.6mph with 3:08's in a 67. It had 350th with a shift kit, street tires. The motor is a 406. The follow year I went with 3:55's and turned 12.8 @ 108mph, so gears DO make a difference.

Seems like 13's with your combination would be about impossible. Your motor is probaly making less than 350 horsepower so it's gonna be really tough with those gears. Don't get discouraged though, it will all come together in time! Just my .02

Probably not possible with that drive train. However, the right torque converter with tall gears can make for a nice setup.

My '68 El Camino has 3.07 gears and a TH-400.
It hase a switch-pitch torque converter. I can switch it to 3000 rpm for takeoff, or 1200 rpm for cruising - the best of both worlds. Good acceleration off the line and low highway rpms. I have not ever run it at a track, but accoring to my G-Tech it runs right around 14.0 (maybe high 13s) at a little over 100 mph. My '68 has a built 396, however.

My 69 Malibu hits a 12.89 in the 104mph range with 3.36 gears and Q-jet with a 406 small block. I think with 26 inch tall slicks you could hit 13.90's in the quarter.

Unless you've got one of those over-achievers that comes along every once and a while, I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment. I hope I'm wrong.
My old combo ran 15.8's with 2.73's. Switched to 3.55(non-posi) and dropped 1.2 seconds and picked up 7 mph. 14.60@95. Check out my web page for a step by step run down.
The smaller the motor the bigger difference gears make. If you've got a stock converter with any kind of cam over 220 deg.@.050 to go with your 3.08 gears that makes it even worse. I'd say 14.8 with a healthy, well tuned motor. Add a gear, converter, and sticky tires and mid 13's aren't out of the question.

If your motor combo is good, 13's are not that hard. I used to easily run 13.8's and 9's with a 3.08 geared non-posi rearend and on 235-60-14 Radial T/As. That was in a Camino with a L-79 cammed 327, 2400 stall, T350. The trick is tuning and getting it off the line. My best with that setup was a 2.01 60ft and 13.54 @ 100.0 mph out the back but that was with really great weather and bite at the line. It was too inconsistent to be a good bracket racer because of the traction problems but I've always had this stupid side that always wants to do things the hard way. As always, lack of money also forces you to just keep tinkering and find the little things that make it work.
