So I have in my posession the current owners name and address of the 68 SS396 that I owned briefly in 84. I was thinking about contacting them so I could see it orsee if maybe I could take some pictures (car was restored about 1990). How would be a good way to approach the people? I thought about just driving down their street and if it was visible I could knock on the door, but at this time of year I would hope it was not outside. Thanks for any responses....

I was in a similar situation a few years ago, and I decided to write the owner a letter. I felt that by doing that, he had the option to either respond, or ignore me if he had no interest.
Within a week, I got a letter back from him along with 2 pictures of the car that he took the first week he had the car when it was new.
I sent another letter thanking him and sent him some pictures of the car.
It worked for me, who knows, it might work for you, too.

I called the last owner of my 67 after a name search on yahoo. I think the key to any approach is delivery, be courteous and always a gentlemen. Seems to work for me. The phone may be less threatening intially.

When I was debating buying my 1969 Chevelle I found the original owner through the original paperwork. I called and spoke with him. He was thrilled to find out that his car was still alive and kicking, sort of kicking that is. He was more then happy to give me the name of who he sold it to and passed on all he knew about the car. I spoke with all four prevoius owners within a 10 day period. I found that owner's of these cars are very open to talking to you since they are interested in what happened to their cars or if they own it now they are interested in talking about what they have done with the car. Most owners of these type of cars were very attached to their cars. I even got a letter detailing one previous owner's time with the car down to the fact that he called it "daisy". Be nice and ask up front if they are willing to share information. Worked for me.
