I'm not to sure if this should go here or not but....it's here now http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
I have been thinking about installing a reproduction flapper hood along with new SS springs. Will I have to install different wiper arms and/or blades? Right now I have the flat hood and regular wipers. What would I need to change wipers?
I know this sounds dumb, but there have been posts about SS wipers and to be honest, I didn't know there was a difference or didn't notice the difference. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/redface.gif

I dont think there is a difference. The only difference I can think of it the wiper motor. More people like to hide their wipers behind the hood.

Rob, I looked at a Malibu today at the Jippy Lube, and he had an SS hood with hidden wipers. The hidden wipers rested on a chrome strip that is attached to the bottom of the windshield???
To make my regular wipers into hidden wipers all I need to do is change out wiper motors?
Are the arms inside the cowl the same, or will those need to be changed also.

so far as I know the hidden wipers rest on the chrome trim of the lower windshield and is out of sight behind the hood. I've come to this because with my other chevelle with stock wiper motor, the wipers were pretty much in view from all directions. I think the wiper arms were the same I can't look at that chevelle non SS now because we sold it. But I do have another malibu, 1970 base gramma car out at the junk yard. It'll be awhile before I go see it again. Maybe some one will answer the question before I get out to the yard.
From what I read and experienced, the hidden wiper option is just the wiper motor that pulls the blade in an extra few inches to hide them. Mine is that way becuase I used a Firebird wipermotor I think and it hides them pretty good. Maybe there are other motors you can use but we used this one cuz it bolted right up to the stock holes I think.
Hope this helps

Thanks Buddy, I just checked the Ground Up catalog and the hidden motor is 20 bucks less than the regular motor. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Judging from the Year One catalog, It looks as if I will have to replace the wiper transmission assembly, arms, etc. It's looking more and more like a PIA gathering the parts.

I wouldnt be to quick to replace the transmission and arms. Someone had put a non hiden wiper motor on my 70SS and they stuck up above the hood line. At the time i didnt know how they retracted but found out that the motor does it. The motor has a cam on the output shaft that moves the wipers down.
Its an engineering genious and works very well. I bought one at super chevy for 20 bucks and rebuilt it. Works great.
