Was working on car today and noticed cross member on pass side was not bolted up. I just recently bought car and are finding all kinds of surprises, anyways,the trans mount was bolted to the cross member, but not to the trans. the two holes on the trans were drilled about a third of a inch in and were 7/16. Well I found some bolts and started tightening the bolts. They were supposed to be 3/8 and I busted the corner on pass side of hole. So I cleaned and scuffed both holes and applied JB Weld and put it all together with 1 1/4 inch 3/8 bolts. As soon as it cures 1 or 2 days I want to redrill both holes with 25/64 drill and tap with a 7/16-20 tap.Will this be to big of a hole? I figured I would go in at least 1 inch possibly 1 1/4. I am a big fan of epoxies like JB weld, but this may be too much of a structural load for the JB weld. A heli coil would be a better solution. If it holds torque then I guess it is a success.

Heli-coils are the proper repair for this. Any satisfaction you have with the epoxy repair will be short lived.

If I am understanding this correctly. Both holes are stripped and part of the mount area is broken out. I am not sure I would try to repair this. I would think that you could go to trans. shop or junk yard and buy a used tailpiece for $20.00 or less. You should be able to change it in the car. Heilicoils work very well but if you have part of the housing broken away I think you would be better off to get a different tailpiece.

I wish it was the tailpiece, but on my T-350 the tailpiece starts right after the mount holes.
