: Which is louder? 2 or 3 chamber?
1Quik7D Apr 6th, 00, 3:59 PM Could someone tell me which series is louder? I want a nice depp throaty rumble, but dont want it to be ungodly loud when crusing. I definately dont want alot of interior noise. Should I go with 2 or 3 chambered Flows? What about the Delta Flows? Anyone know anything about them? Thanks
maxbishop Apr 6th, 00, 6:09 PM The 2 chambers are the loudest of the two. For street use go with the 3 chamber Delta Flows. They still have that unique Flowmaster sound with reduced interior resonance.
71boo Apr 7th, 00, 5:02 AM I have the 2-chamber Flows on my '71 with a mild 350. They sound loud but reasonable when I get up on it. I'm not so sure this summer once I change to a hotter cam.

gibbons Apr 7th, 00, 5:33 AM The Flowmaster 800 number guys say the 2 is loudest, the 3 is next, and the Delta Flow technology takes the edge of a 2 to make it have less interior resonance. The Delta's are supposed to sound a bit different, though. Their web site has some bar charts to show relative sound levels.
In another thread, I mention I just put on 2 chambers. Not having actually heard the options, I had to just guess and cross my fingers that the 2's would work. In a worst case scenario, idling inside my echo-ey garage, they were ok with me and the wife too.
mr 4 speed Apr 7th, 00, 7:17 AM I have the delta-flow 3 chambers, and man,are they loud in my opinion. The flowmaster catalog shows some "happy" guy with a 69 or 70 GTO and says"we want to hear our favorite CD's while we're cruisin' and still ahve a nice sounding exhaust"or something like that.Sure.whatever.He must have a 8.5:1 compression motor,'cause I have an L72 in my 70 Chevelle SS396(11.25:1)and man,are they loud!!I'm glad I didn't go with the 2 chamber
Flowmasters.I had the Walker super turbos(dynomax)on the car before the Flowmasters and I thought they where a little loud.I mean,I like a nice sounding exhaust, but I want to use my car's performance, not have everyone and their mother hear me coming either.
Uncle Apr 7th, 00, 8:11 AM Quik, it seems to vary greatly by setup. I've got the 3 chambers on my '71 BB w/cam. It's what I wanted . . deep and throaty without being too loud. Of course when you stand on a big block it's going to be loud through anything. Certainly cam choice and compression ration play a large part in this. The Delta's are quietest of the Flows (of course quiet is a relative term).
STEVO-7O Apr 7th, 00, 9:23 AM I'm going with 3 chambered flows myself. I have head both 2 and 3 chamber flows. Personally, I think they both sound great, but I would choose the 3 chambered for the street. I think they have a deeper throaty sound to them than the 2's. A buddy of mine has them (3's)on his 67 olds and they sound cooool. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif They sound mean mean!!! AAARH. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif
onabudget Apr 9th, 00, 9:34 AM I have 3's on a 67 Small Block, deep, not to anoying at cruising rpms, and scream at WOT.
ALot less anoying than 2's inside the car.

Justin Mciver Apr 10th, 00, 3:32 PM I just switched from 2 1/2" 2chambers to
3" three chamber. the was no sound increase or decrease. but the bigger pipes sound much better, less like a tin can.
note....
flowmaster has discontinued the basic three chamber as of april 1st. 2000. now three chambers only come with deltaflow technology.

rat4spd Apr 10th, 00, 4:38 PM Question for the people with three chamber flows that say they are loud....Do you run a full exhaust?????? I've had a set on my elky for six years and my new Z24 is just as loud during normal driving. They aren't much louder when I get on it. That's with a lopey 396 and a four gear.
70_FathomBlueMalibu Apr 11th, 00, 7:07 PM Go with 1-chambers. Be different. Get a set of cahones and make everyone's neck snap as you lope by. I know I do....in my small block. Everyone swears it's a bonafided radical big block. Granted most of them probably don't know much about muscle cars, but they do definitely make one stand out in a crowd of pickup trucks runnin 2 and 3 chambers (no offense to Chevelle owners who run 2's and 3's...you sound great no matter what!)
