: DISCONTINUED VALVE FOR CI HOOD
DZAUTO Jan 13th, 00, 3:03 PM Well everyone, guess what? The GM delay valve, part number 8997639, that was recently discovered to work great for the CI Hood and cost about 1/4 the price of the repo check valve, is, as some of you insisted, now discontinued. I guess that when it was discovered, there were VERY few in GM's inventory and I must have bought the last one. So it looks like the only option is the repo at about $40.

mike reeh Jan 13th, 00, 3:47 PM I dont remember what car that part went to, or even what it originally was for, but is there any chance a parts store like Pep Boys or Kragen would carry it?

DZAUTO Jan 13th, 00, 4:32 PM This valve (called a delay valve by GM) was actually discovered by Brian Lamson. It is on a 1984 Buick Regal he has. The location of the valve is in the vacuum line going to the air cleaner snorlel, according to Brian.
Maybe it would be a good idea to look for these in salvage yards!
Also, like Mike suggested, check with parts stores like Pep Boys, O'Riellys, NAPA, etc.

chev64 Jan 14th, 00, 8:20 AM To DZ and others, The dam-near(Daimler)Chrysler cars and trucks use a vacuum delay valve in their a/c systems and it might work in the CI systems?(I'm probably going to get roasted for this, but I'm a big boy and I can take it) http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of the low price is forgotten.
Brian Lamson Jan 16th, 00, 10:26 PM Hey DZ at least you bought one I never did replace the one I took off the regal.

68SS396Camaro Jan 17th, 00, 5:22 AM Hey DZ or anyone else that got one of these from the Regal. Can someone post a picture so I know what it looks like when I go to the junkyard. A local junkyard has a bunch of eighties Regals, Cutlass, Montes, Grand Prix's. They are all basically the same car and most came with the same engines. It could be but I doubt its 84 Buick Regal only. Although if its discontinued it probably didn't come in a million cars. Any pictures please??
DZAUTO Jan 17th, 00, 8:04 AM I just called GROUND UP, to ask about the AG-303 they sell (sold). It is discontinued and, by their description, it was this same valve.
I have no way to send a picture. Here's a description. It is round, about 1 1/4in diameter, and about 3/4in long with a vac hose fitting on each end for 1/4in hose. It is solid black and one END is white. On the black end it says MOTOR. on the white end it says Made in USA and 8997325. That's the best I can do.
