I just tried to install new vent window rubber on my 65. This crap dont fit.The vent window won't close right on one side and has a massive gap at the top on the other side. I wish reputable repoppers would get thier s**t right. It really s*cks to drop good money on garbage. Just had to vent.

Are you sure you got the right stuff? Mistakes are made sometimes. For 65 at least the sedan/elky vent window ws is different from the hardtop, that would be an easy mixup. Just a thought. For what it's worth I bought new vent window ws for a 65 sedan from Hinshaws and it fit perfect.

BAD415,
Make sure that you have seated the rubber completely in the frame, use WD40 to lubricate it so it will move around easier. I just installed a set on my 65 El Camino and fit great (from OPGI). I did have a little misalignment at first, had to make sure the three screws down the front dorr frame were completely tightened. It sounds like the bottom screw is not tight in you case, it should pull the bottom of the frame foward and open up this lower gap and close the upper gap. Try this and see, but loosen the inside back edge and bottom frame adjusment screws first. Tighten all of the front edge screws first and then tighten thes other mounting points.

I had mucho trouble aligning my vent window weatherstrip too. I used dishwash detergent as a lubricant and got the fit pretty good. I didn't know there were different pieces for el camino and sedan. my car is a 4 door wagon, so i guess it fits in the sedan catagory. what is the difference?

The vent frames are out of the car. A convertible. I did a little adjusting tonight and they are slightly better, but I'm still not real thrilled with the fit. BTW I did use a lubricant (liquid soap) to get them to snap in.They fit short in the frame, like they need to be stretched a bit. They look dead on from the originals, but I didn't mic them or anything. This is my 4th car resto, and hadn't had any trouble with repops fitting in the past. I'll call the shop I got them from tomorrow, hope they can help me out.
