Besides the obvious - replace the wiper motor - why do my winshield washers come on and stay on with the wipers? Is there some little piece that needs to be oiled, adjusted or cleaned that can repair this? Thanks!

The washer pump is usually a separate part bolted to the wiper motor.You might have a bad switch,or the washer has a mechanical problem inside that keeps it on. Is the wipercontrol and the washer in the same switch?What year car is this? Try unpluging the electrical connection at the washer motor.If the washer still runs look inside for the trouble. If the washer stops running look for an electrical problem towards the switch.

Alan, the prior owner of my '67 did a half arsed job of underdash wiring and I could only get the washer to work ( no wipers low/high). I traced it to not getting the three way switch ( high/low/wash) hooked up properly.
