I have a 67 SS with a body build date from the first week of October 67 and I am looking for a 396 that has engine build dates that would fall into the accuracy window for the body date. I have been told 90 days prior is reasonable... Is this true?

Mark,

I have heard 90 days is a reasonable time period however the closer the better.

My engine buld date is Jan 13, 1970 (today is its 30 year old birthday) and the body build date is the 3rd week of Jan 1970. Talk about close. It boggles my mind how they did that. I mean the engine was from Tonawanda N.Y. and the car was built in Arlington, Texas. Not only were those tight dates, the trans was assembled Jan 12, 1970 and the rear end was assembled January 9, 1970.

Its amazing that all these parts were assembled in different parts of the country and assembled in the car within a couple of weeks. Who said U.S. production wasn't efficient. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

You've got a better chance than I do as my 67 Elcamino has a build date of Sept 66 #1201

My 67SS was also built in the first week of October in Kansas. My engine build date is T0921ED. Who said that JIT is a new concept?

I have an LS-6 that's dated w/in days of the car's build date. Most of the original engines and parts I have seen are often dated w/in 30-days of the car's build date though some engines certainly fall outside of this date. I agree, looks like JIT was in full swing.
