I recently purchased a 68 Malibu 2drHT and restoration is in progress. I would also like to replace the front drums with disc brakes. Which cars can I scavange the parts from? I would also like to replace the Powerglide with a 700R4. I am replacing the factory 307 with a 327 and plan to keep the HP under 300. Which cars can I scavange the 700R4 from and what other , if any parts do I need besides the trans. and torque converter? Thanks.

This topic has been covered extensively in prior posts, so you can get a lot of info pretty quickly by using the "search" feature in the upper right part of the page. you will probably find more than you ever imagined. Have fun.

You can use any 67-72 GM A body, which includes the Olds Cutlass, Pontiac Lemans/GTO, Buick Skylark, and of course, any Chevelle in that year range.

I couldn't tell you exactly which cars to get the 700 from, but try to find one of the earlier ones with a TV cable and mechanical speedo.
I did the 'glide to 700 conversion on my 68 Elky back in '96. I've been very happy with it. There wasn't much info available on the conversion back then, so I had to wing it. Fortunately "winging it" wasn't anything new for me after having made many modifications to many cars over the years.
Now there is plenty of info available all over. Someone pointed out a great website just the other day that I wish I had access to 4 years ago http://www.700R4.com They have a lot of street rods on their site, but I hope you don't hold that against them. (Personally, I love street rods too)
I also managed to keep my column shifter. Had to rob linkage parts off of an S-10 and do some minor cutting and welding, but it works great.
Drop me a line if you have any further questions on the tranny conversion. My e-mail is cjlandry@home.com

if you are keeping the hp down use a 2004r tranny cheaper conversion and simple to do. just my opinion and im biased to em. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I agree with John on the 200R4 thing. I hadn't even heard of such a thing when I did my 700 conversion. Of course I was looking for more of a performance tranny, so I didn't even consider anything else.
