Has anyone change the body bushings on a 70SS and what is the best way to do it. THANKS

I replaced them recently on my 70SS. Maybe someone has a better alternative, but here's what I did:

1)Loosen the all the bushing attach bolts on one side.

2) Remove all the bushing attach bolts on the other side.

3) Place a bottle jack under each of the floor pan cross-members on the side where the bolts have been removed.

4) Raise the body evenly using the 2 bottle jacks just to the point where the bushings can be slid out.

5) Slide the new bushings in & loosely install the attach bolts.

6) Repeat for the other side.

7) Torque the bolts to the recommended spec.

This was not a difficult job at all...fortunately, the bushing attach bolts on my SS came out without a problem. I've heard of cases where the bolts were rusted so bad the capture nuts broke loose.

Good Luck!

Do a search in the suspension thread and you will get MANY hits to read on exactly this issue and any problem. I do not recomment jacking up the body in the manner suggested here unless your front clip is off, the motor and tranny are out and the interior is out. They cannot support the weight of your car. You will need to use a pinchweld jack or carefully jack the car up from the area outside the pinch weld.

A pinchweld jack works best. This is a jack with a slot in it that the pinchweld fits into. You can cut a slot into a 4 to 6 inch piece of 4" by 4" wood and use that in the same manner.

jac,
go to the top of this page and click on "Search". A page comes up asking you for words to search for such as "body bushing". Then pick the forum you want to search in the box below search words. You can only search one forum at a time if you are not a member (shameless plug to join). If nothing comes back in the Brakes & Suspension, try the Body forums. Good Luck.
