: 69 SS grill moldings.....????
Don_Lightfoot Nov 10th, 00, 5:49 PM Should there be moldings between the two headlight buckets and also a U-shaped molding on the outside of the headlight bucket around to the front fender extension molding? These are just the center horizontal pieces. Hopefully I have explained it properly.
I notice "Ground Up" has a new reproduction called "1969 Between Headlights" which is one area I am referring to.
If there were to be some "outside" U-shaped moldings, any idea if they are being reproduced?
Thanks in advance gang.

micky69396 Nov 10th, 00, 7:08 PM I think I know what you are talking about now, There are no mouldings on the grill or the corner that you are thinking about they are just painted silver. The parts that are offered are the little mouldings in between your headights. ------------------

Don_Lightfoot Nov 10th, 00, 7:30 PM You had me thinking there for a while Micky before you edited your response. Just to be sure we are on the same wavelength I'm sending you an email with a blowup of the area I am referring to, although I think you have answered it now.
Thanks Micky.

Don, I think the moldings in the Ground Up catalog you're referring to are the small ones that go between the headlights at the top. They line up with the top horizontal grille opening molding and attach to the body (header panel) sheet metal.

Don_Lightfoot Nov 11th, 00, 8:35 AM The catalog did not say specifically whether it was the top or middle, that's what sparked the question. Thanks von and Nick.

joe58 Nov 11th, 00, 10:36 AM There has always been a little confusion on the 1969 Chevelle grills. If you look at it as having 3 trim bars, the top bar is three pieces - one long bar and two short ones between the headlights. The bottom bar is three pieces one long bar and two 90 deg. corners. The middle bar is the confusing one because the Malibu grill came with a long center trim bar and had holes in the grill to mount the bar. The 300 grill has the trim piece built into the plastic mold of the grill. There are no holes in the 300 grill and it is not made to use the bolt on trim piece. For some reason when you purchase a replacement grill you sometimes would get the 300 grill. The dealer would tell you to drill the holes yourself and many people would drill the holes and mount the center (middle) trim piece. It looks ok but sticks out about a half inch more then an original Malibu grill that came with holes from the factory. The Malibu grill center bar, when viewed from the side, has holes and is shorter and has a flat face where the center trim bar mounts.
ACES-70 Nov 11th, 00, 3:57 PM I beg to differ with U,,,all the grills were the same,,just the coloring was different,, the grill ona 300 car that was produced with the SS option was drilled the same as a normal coupe in 69 that is,,I can not comment on other years cause I really dont know,,

joe58 Nov 11th, 00, 7:46 PM L89SEDAN - In my garage, I have examples of each of the two different types of 69 grills I mentioned. If you have access to an original car you will see what I mean. If not I can take pictures and post them.
micky69396 Nov 11th, 00, 9:35 PM Joe is correct on this, to find a original SS/Malibu grille today is very expensive and difficult. Not many people know the differences, that middle bar is the key.
