I have a 68 malibu and i just got a later 67 12 bolt rear end with the correct spring pads, and some people say that the upper control arms from my 68 won't fit on my 67 rear end. I want to know if my 67 rear will fit in my 68 with no problems. Also if the upper control arms will fit or if i have to get 67 control arms, or modify the rear.

I believe the parts are interchangable. Most years are compatible.

There is the small bother of the rear being a little narrower than the 68, not sure how much, but I seem to remember it as several inches.

From what I understand, the 67 rear end is 1" shorter than the 68 and later. It will bolt in but your tires will be moved in 1/2" on each side. You should use the upper arm for the year car, not the year rear end. I'm not sure but I think there are a couple different lenghts of upper arms used, go with the one for the car.

The 67 rear axle should fit under your 68 no problem, though it is slightly shorter, the brackets are in the same locations. Use the 68 upper control arms, the 68 control arms are shorter than the 67. Also, if your car did not come with a 12 bolt, you will have to modify your drivers side 10 bolt upper control arm, the inside of the control arm will rub and bind on the housing, some material must be removed from the control arm for clearance, just trial fit your control arm on the housing and you will see where it needs clearance.
Good luck.

I tried a set of 69 10 bolt upper control arms on a 12 bolt alxe I have, and they did go on without binding, however, it was a very close fit. I still suggest that you trial fit them. On 64-67, the drivers side 10 bolt upper control arm will have to be modified for a 12 bolt alxe. Good luck.
